Penn State has been playing well in the opening rounds of the Big 10 Tournament, but didn’t have a great season going 18-15 (15-16 ATS) (6-14 con.). Both teams are 3-2 ATS their last five games, but Purdue is shooting at a higher percentage from the field (46.7%) while Penn State is only shooting 41.9%. These teams have only faced each other once this year, at Penn State, where Purdue came out the victor by 7 points.

7:00pm Greensboro Coliseum, Greensboro, NC. 1st Round of the ACC Tournament

This season NC State went 19-12 (15-11-2 ATS) while Pitt also did well going 19-13 but was only 8-20-1 ATS. NC State went 12-4 against ACC teams while Pitt only went 5-12. NC State has played great defense the last five games only allowing an average 59.2 points while putting up 65.4 points a game (+6 point margin). Meanwhile Pitt has not been playing great defense allowing an average 64.6 points while only putting up 63.4 points the last five games (-1 point margin). NC State is 4-1 ATS (4-1 overall) the last five games while Pitt is only 1-4 ATS (2-3 overall). Expect Anthony Barber, Ralston Turner, and Trevor Lacy to have a field day under the basket vs Pitt’s poor defensive rebounding squad. I predict a NC State 10 point win in this first round game in Greensboro, which will practically be another home game for NC State.

NBA Pick and Analysis for Tuesday March 10

The Spurs have been playing good basketball recently going on a five game winning streak (4-1 ATS). The Raptors have been on a 1-5 skid (2-3 ATS) and they are going to San Antonio for their third straight road game. In their last five games, three at home, the Spurs have averaged 111.2 points while only allowing an average of 94.2 points a game. Meanwhile the Raptors are averaging 104.4 points over the last five games while allowing their opponent to shoot 44% from the field. The Spurs are 23-7 at homes this season. 5-0 ATS with a +13.3 point margin in their last five home games. With the Raptors recent defensive struggles and Tony Parker and Kawhi Leonard playing playoff basketball in March, I predict the Spurs to avenge their earlier loss to the Raptors this season by 10 or more points.

morgan state +5 vs hampton -5

9:00pm Norfolk Scope Arena, Norfolk VA. 1st Round of Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tourn.

This game will be played on a neutral court like any other conference tournament game, but this will just be another home game for Hampton. Although Morgan State’s campus is relatively close in Maryland, Hampton’s campus is a nice 24 mile car ride into town. Hampton is 12-17 this year while Morgan State is is a lousy 7-23. Both teams have only had lines put on three of their games. Hampton went 3-0 while Morgan State went 0-3. In their last five games Hampton is 2-3 putting up an average of 75.2 points a game, while Morgan State is 0-5 only averaging 66.8 points a game. In both their two previous meetings this year Hampton came out the victor winning by 4 points at home and 12 points away at Morgan State, which makes their average point margin against Morgan State +8. Needless to say with the presumably overwhelming crowd advantage going to Hampton, their confidence in beating Morgan State twice this season, and Morgan State coming into this game loosing five straight, Hampton should definitely win this game by 6 or more points.

Leading into this game Phoenix has played four straight games on the road going 2-2 while Golden State has played three straight games at home going 3-0. Over the season Golden State has averaged 55 points in the first half, while Phoenix has averaged 53. Over the last five games Golden State has averaged 52.4 points in the first half, while Phoenix has only averaged 40.4. If you average Phoenix’s last five game half average and their season average the result is 46.7. A 5.7 point margin to Golden States last five game half average. Also, Phoenix will most likely be without Alex Lin. Last game Lin only played 2 minutes with a sprained right ankle in a 10 point loss at Cleveland. This season Lin has only averaged 6.4 points a game with 6.5 rebounds. His replacement, Earl Barron, played 13:20 minutes last game going 0-2 from the field, 2 rebounds, 1 steal, and only 1 point. Golden State is known to come out strong in the first half and Phoenix has been playing bad basketball recently. I expect nothing to be different tonight.
